
Rabindranath Tagore (1861–1941)
Rabindranath Tagore was a poet, philosopher, painter, and the first Asian to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913. Known as “Gurudev,” he reshaped Bengali literature, music, and art through his timeless works. His songs, poems, and stories reflect deep human emotions, nature, and spirituality. Tagore founded Visva-Bharati University at Santiniketan to promote creativity and learning. His compositions Jana Gana Mana and Amar Shonar Bangla became the national anthems of India and Bangladesh.
